 Welcome to Batik Fabrics Online in Australia. We sell batik fabrics online for patchwork, quilting and dressmaking. We currently only stock 100% cotton batiks hand made in Indonesia. At this stage we only sell stamped batik fabrics. A brief description about how these beautiful fabrics are made using dyes and wax and lots of physical work. Colours and wax applied by a tjap are selected. The first colour is applied to white fabric. A pattern is stamped using the copper tjap. The first dye colour is removed using a chemical stripping agent. The second dye colours are applied. The wax is removed by heating, then the fabric is rinsed and dried. So many variations of colour can be made and the fabrics possess an endless beauty. Laying out the fabric, pleating it up for the first dye application. Sometimes the first dye application is one, two, three or four or even more dye colours. This is not the first dye application for my next sample. After the fabric has dried, the wax is applied...
